Badlands, SD
In September we embarked on a road trip to Badlands National Park.
One of our favorite spots to camp was Sage Creek Campground, where we stayed for 5 nights.
At sunrise, we woke up to the barks of prairie dogs. As we cooked breakfast in the morning we were surrounded by roaming bison, they bathed in the loose dirt and made their way down to the creek as the sun beamed.
Each day we ventured into the sharply eroded pinnacles, containing the world’s richest fossil beds.
Badlands has an open hike policy but was no joke in the heat.
At sunset, we drove the 39-mile loop (SD-240) ranging from breathtaking rock formations to native prairie grasslands.
The badlands loop road contains 16 pinnacles. As the sun begin to set the bighorn sheep made their way up the steep rock formations and into the prairie grass.
Truly an unforgettable experience.
